Looking deeper into ‘Pattern Understanding’ and its applications within Permaculture. As well as exploring the importance of the ‘Living Wisdom’ of the Indigenous People and Nature itself.
We are very happy to be offering a course specializing in this particular subject of Permaculture. We feel that it is an area often not understood by some people, And it’s often not put across in the right way, if at all, by some of the Permaculture education that is available. Many of our students in the past have said that we should do a course specializing in ‘Pattern Understanding’, as they feel we have a lot to share on this topic and they’d like to learn more. It can be quite a complicated subject, but we try to bring people up to a high level of appreciation and practice by using easy-to-understand and simplified techniques to help grasp some deep perspectives about the nature of Nature.
From fractals to flow-forms, from proportion to diversity, from circles to spirals, from the microcosm to the macrocosm, from me to us, from pi to phi, from explosions to implosions And from unity to infinity. This course will be exploring how nature puts herself together, from the smallest relationships of matter and energy all the way to the hugest possible expressions of form that we can see or imagine. We also explore the similarities over these different scales through time and space, And see how these different perspectives combine to form an interconnected universal view.
It is not nescacary to have completed your PDC or diploma in Permaculture. But if you can arrive with some understanding that we believe that nature knows best. That Nature is the reality that we live in, we are part of it, and that life is a gift. That we are trying to study natures archetypes to understand the small pieces of the bigger picture as well as the ‘bigger picture’ itself, the Whole. We are not learning the secrets of Nature to work against Nature, but instead we are trying to use them to aid pre-existing natural processes and rehabilitate lost or destroyed ecosystems.
Many people find it hard to know how to recreate the randomness and anarchy of natural patterns and arrangements, Which in its essence is actually profound order. This course will include many visual and practical elements including tips for ‘daily-life’ about how to bring this information into the designs of everything that we do. The theoretical classes will be balanced by a good selection of outdoor activities including designing on the land, hands-on and interactive design processes.
The main teacher for this course will be Ras John Cresswell, together with a selection of guest speakers and assistants.
The course will be held at a beautiful organic farm. Situated in a valley between three mountain ranges, just twenty minutes from SuperNatural Permaculture Center. The accommodation is of a very good quality, with beautiful natural surroundings, a swimming pool, with views around the valley and up to the mountains.

-Natural design and form – the building blocks of creation
-Proportion – Where to cut a piece of string?
-Exploring Natures mathematics and geometry – Going back to school , but this time its super cool.
-Patterns – The music of the physical world
-The ‘roots of Permaculture’ – Indigenous Agriculture and Shamanic Art-forms.
-How to recreate and invite beneficial energy flows, and how to keep out or equalize the negative.
-Mapping the seasons, stars, sun and moon through stone circles, landscaping , sculptures, structures or carvings.
-Patterns in Human culture- How do some of the Indigenous peoples of the world stay in balance with Nature?
How can we re-create ‘true culture and tradition’ that embodies those concepts over many , many generations?
And finding the differences between the abundant ‘Living Wisdom’ of the Natural World, compared to the potentially ‘Dead Knowledge’ of the Human world.
-How can Quantum Physics be of significance to Permaculture?
Practical workshops include….
-Mapping and creating a mandala garden….
-Gardening like Bees, And growing mycelium like Ants. Learning how to use multi-purpose cell design patterns to increase diversity and connections.
-Interactive design process utilizing all forms explored during the course.
-Mapping and creating a stone circle (natural calendar) , to align with certain points in earth, sky and heavenly bodies.
-Creative garden structures
-A garden tour exploring the patterns of the landscape and projects at SuperNatural Permaculture Center
